I live in a high mountain forest surrounded by pine and aspen trees. Leaves, pine needles & cones, branches, rocks, boulders, grasses, wild flowers and creek water have become my artistic inspiration. I observe the seasonal variations of these elements and experience the changes in the forest that accompany the seasons. Snow blows, wind gusts, ice freezes, the sun shines, birds chirp, coyotes howl. Colors and textures change. Patterns develop from the layers of the overlapping branches and leaves and all of it finds its way in to my paintings.

Although my work originates in observation, I paint from imagination. As an intuitive painter I want to take my work beyond realistic portrayal, from what I see to what I experience. I am most happy interpreting the mysterious and intangible qualities of human experience through an expressive abstract visual language.

I am a former art instructor/ museum educator who is now retired and finding my voice as a acrylic painter. I grew up outside Manhattan, N.Y. and have been greatly influenced by the work of the abstract expressionists. I live with my husband, David Hewett whose photography you can see on this site.
